What are dwarves good at in 5e?
Con +2, darkvision, poison resistance and advantage on poison saves, and heavy armour does not slow them. Mountain Dwarf uniquely grants two +2s (Str and Con) — no other race does.
Hill Dwarf or Mountain Dwarf?
Hill Dwarf: Wis +1 and +1 hit point per level — the best cleric and the toughest caster in the game. Mountain Dwarf: Str +2 plus armour proficiency, which is the strongest martial start available.
Why is dwarf speed 25 feet?
They are stout. But their speed is uniquely *not* reduced by heavy armour, so a Strength-8 dwarf in plate still moves 25 — while a human in the same plate drops to 20.
Is dwarven poison resistance actually useful?
Very. Poison is the most common damage type at low levels and one of the most common conditions overall. Resistance plus advantage on the save makes dwarves near-immune to a whole tier of threats.
