RedemptionPaladin Sacred Oath — D&D 5e

Oath of Redemption paladins believe the enemy in front of them might not have to become a corpse. Talk first, fight only when talk fails — and even then, fight to stop rather than to kill. It’s the hardest oath to run at most tables and the one players remember longest when it works, mechanically leaning on damage mitigation and turning aggression back on the attacker.

Redemption Features

Level 3Channel Divinity: Emissary of Peace

A Channel Divinity charge that buffs your Persuasion checks — this oath spends resources on talking a fight out of happening at all.

Level 3Channel Divinity: Rebuke the Violent

When it does come to blows, this reaction mirrors damage a nearby attacker deals back onto them — punishing violence without you throwing the first punch.

Level 7Aura of the Guardian

You can redirect damage meant for a nearby ally onto yourself as a reaction — the defining "I take the hit instead" feature of the oath.

Level 15Protective Spirit

A free burst of healing kicks in whenever you drop below half HP in combat, keeping a self-sacrificing paladin upright longer than the math suggests.

Level 20Emissary of Redemption

The capstone reflects a portion of any damage dealt to you back at the attacker automatically, unless you choose to waive it — mercy as a toggle.
