Sorcerer / Paladin “Sorcadin”Multiclass Build Guide — D&D 5e
A quickened attack plus a spell, all feeding Divine Smite, wrapped in heavy armour and an Aura of Protection — the highest-DPR burst build.
The synergy
Why Sorcerer / Paladin Works
This is the Sorcadin from the sorcerer’s perspective: you are a sorcerer who invests six levels in paladin to gain the martial chassis the class desperately needs. The sorcerer’s d6 hit die, no armour, and empty melee kit are its worst weaknesses. Six paladin levels answer all of them: heavy armour, shields, Extra Attack, Divine Smite, Lay on Hands, and the Aura of Protection (Charisma to all saves within 10 ft).
After Paladin 6, every sorcerer level restores full-caster slot progression. Those slots serve double duty: fuel for your sorcerer spells (Quicken, Twin, Subtle) and ammunition for Divine Smite. A critical hit with a 4th-level Smite deals 10d8 radiant damage — before your weapon damage — and a Quickened Booming Blade or Green-Flame Blade lets you do it and cast a levelled spell on the same turn.
The trade-off is six levels of sorcerer progression lost. You reach 3rd-level sorcerer spells at character level 11 (Sorcerer 5 + Paladin 6), and your sorcery point maximum is permanently six points behind a pure sorcerer. The ceiling is higher, the floor is higher, and the complexity is higher. This is the most mechanically demanding build in 5e, and the most rewarding when played correctly.
Ability priority: CHA → STR (13) → CON — Charisma drives sorcerer spellcasting, paladin Aura of Protection, and your save DCs. Strength 13 is the paladin multiclass gate and powers your melee attacks. Constitution for hit points and concentration.

Frequently Asked
How is this different from the Paladin/Sorcerer Sorcadin?
Same build, different starting perspective. Paladin/Sorcerer starts paladin and adds sorcerer for spell fuel. Sorcerer/Paladin starts sorcerer (CON saves) and adds paladin for armour and Smite. The end result is identical; the levelling path and starting saves differ.
Should I start Sorcerer or Paladin?
Start Sorcerer 1 for Constitution save proficiency — critical for concentration. Then go Paladin 1-6 for the martial package. Return to Sorcerer from character level 7 onward.
Which Sorcerous Origin for Sorcadin?
Divine Soul gives the Cleric spell list (Healing Word, Spirit Guardians, Bless) on top of Sorcerer. Clockwork Soul restores a slot per long rest and replaces spells flexibly. Shadow (Darkness + Devil’s Sight equivalent at Origin 3) is strong but competes with the paladin’s light theme.
