Warlock / BardMulticlass Build Guide — D&D 5e
Eldritch Blast plus Agonizing Blast gives a bard a reliable ranged attack, while Charisma powers both — a face caster with real damage.
The synergy
Why Warlock / Bard Works
The warlock’s gift to the bard is a ranged attack that actually hurts. Vicious Mockery deals 1d4 and imposes disadvantage — useful but pathetic as a damage source. Eldritch Blast + Agonizing Blast replaces it with 1d10 + CHA force damage at 120 feet, scaling beams with character level. For a class built around Charisma, the synergy is seamless: one stat powers EB, bard spells, and Bardic Inspiration.
Pact Magic slots on a short rest mirror the bard’s own Inspiration recovery from Font of Inspiration (Bard 5). Both resources refuel on the same schedule, creating a sustained output loop. The warlock’s invocations add passive utility: Devil’s Sight for the Darkness combo, Mask of Many Faces for at-will Disguise Self (the infiltrator bard’s dream), or Repelling Blast for battlefield control from range.
The patron choice flavours the dip. Archfey’s Fey Presence (charm/fear in a cone) synergises with the bard’s enchantment focus. Hexblade gives medium armour and CHA to a melee weapon, turning a Swords bard into a single-stat melee threat. Genie adds a damage bonus on one attack per turn. From the warlock’s side, you are lending your engine to a class that will use it better socially than you ever could.
Ability priority: CHA → DEX → CON — Charisma drives everything: EB, bard spells, Bardic Inspiration, warlock spells, and (with Hexblade) melee attacks. Dexterity for light armour AC. Constitution for concentration.

Frequently Asked
How is this different from Bard / Warlock?
Same pairing, warlock’s perspective. The bard file focuses on what the bard gains (EB, damage, short-rest slots). This file focuses on what the warlock lends: Pact Magic, invocations, and a patron. The build is mechanically identical.
Which patron for a bard dip?
Archfey for thematic synergy with enchantment spells. Hexblade for a melee Swords bard (CHA to attacks, medium armour). Genie for a ranged Lore bard (bonus damage + Bottled Respite safe space). Fiend for temp HP on kills.
Does Warlock 3 add enough for bards?
Pact of the Chain gives an invisible familiar (scouting, Help action, touch-spell delivery). Pact of the Tome adds 3 cantrips and ritual casting (Book of Ancient Secrets). For a skill-monkey bard, Tome is excellent. Otherwise, stop at 2.
