Healing Word, Answered
How much does Healing Word heal in 5e?
1d4 + your spellcasting ability modifier, at 60 feet, as a bonus action. Each slot level above 1st adds another 1d4 — a 3rd-level slot heals 3d4 + your modifier.
Healing Word vs Cure Wounds — which is better?
Healing Word, in almost every situation that matters. It is a bonus action at 60 feet; Cure Wounds is a full action at touch. Cure Wounds heals more per slot (1d8 vs 1d4), but the point of in-combat healing is getting someone off 0 hit points — and one hit point does that just as well as nine.
Can I cast Healing Word and another spell in the same turn?
No. After casting a spell as a bonus action, the only spell you can cast with your action that turn is a cantrip. A weapon attack is not a spell, so that is still allowed.
Does Healing Word work on undead?
No. Like Cure Wounds, it has no effect on undead or constructs.
